5 TIPS TO WORK REMOTELY FROM A VILLAGE BY A REMOTE RECRUITER

*This blog post is written by Ramona Ileana, founder of Roremote and participant in Rooral Benarrabá & The Break Fellowship in Spring 2023 in Malaga.

In an ever-evolving world where remote work is becoming increasingly prevalent, the concept of working from a picturesque village might seem like an unattainable dream.

However, for those willing to step out of their comfort zones, like my recent experience in Benarraba, a small white village in south of Spain, remote working in a village can offer a unique and enriching experience.

I had the privilege of spending three weeks in a rural coliving & coworking in this charming Andalusian village. During my stay I discovered the incredible benefits of working remotely from a village and gained valuable insights into making it a reality. In this article, I'll share tips on how to make the most of remote work from nature while enjoying village life.

The Allure of Remote Work in a Village

Remote work has revolutionized the way we work, breaking down geographical barriers and providing unprecedented freedom. While working from a bustling city or a home office has its advantages, the appeal of remote work in a village is undeniable:

  1. Peaceful Environment: Villages offer tranquility and a slower pace of life, creating a serene work environment that fosters focus and creativity.

  2. Connection with Nature: Being surrounded by nature not only provides a breathtaking backdrop for your work but also offers opportunities for rejuvenating hikes and outdoor activities.

  3. Community Spirit: Villages often have close-knit communities where you can connect with locals, gain unique insights, and build valuable relationships.

  4. Stunning natural landscapes: like the picturesque Benarraba, can provide daily inspiration and boost your overall well-being.

  5. Work-Life Balance: Villages encourage a healthier work-life balance, allowing you to unplug and recharge when needed.

During my time in Benarraba, I had the incredible opportunity to continue working on my business, Roremote, a platform connecting remote professionals with businesses worldwide. Here are some practical tips based on my experience:

1. Find suitable accommodation: Look for accommodations that offer a peaceful environment and a stable internet connection. Many villages now offer co-living spaces with reliable Wi-Fi, like Roora.. Thankfully, Benarraba has transformed a nearby structure into a state-of-the-art rural coworking hub, complete with breathtaking views and a lemon tree gracing the patio.

2. Establish a Routine: Maintain a structured daily routine to ensure productivity. Dedicate specific hours to work and allocate time for exploring the village and surroundings. One of the perks of remote working in Benarraba or villages in general, is the availability of hiking trails and outdoor activities. These trails offer a chance to stretch your legs, clear your mind, and soak in the stunning natural landscapes that surround this village in Malaga.

3. Embrace Local Culture: Immerse yourself in the village culture by attending local events, and festivals and getting to know the residents. Their wisdom (and hospitality) can be a blessing. During our time in this Andalusian village, not only did we learn how to make our own baskets, but also had the chance to connect with nature through meaningful walks in the forest and identify medicinal plants along the way.

4. Balance Work and Leisure: Take advantage of your surroundings by incorporating leisure and wellbeing activities like yoga, hiking or even dancing into your daily routine. This balance is key to enjoying village life fully. Embracing culture differences can be a significant aspect of remote working in a village. For example, the concept of siesta can be a new experience for some (myself included), but it can make one realize the importance of rest. It's essential to embrace the local culture and take advantage of the unique benefits it offers to make the most out of your remote work experience in a village.

5. Network Effectively: Connect with other digital nomads and entrepreneurs in the village. One of the best parts is, that most likely, you'll encounter other ambitious entrepreneurs in the rural coworking who share your values and are eager to connect on a deeper level.

Benarraba wasn't my first experience with village life, as I spent 18 years in a small village with stunning views of the Romanian mountains, but it definitely strengthened my beliefs about remote work. It made me remember the importance of embracing village life, cherishing the beauty of nature, and valuing the wisdom of the local community.

As more entrepreneurs and remote professionals seek alternatives to traditional office settings, villages like Benarraba and rural coliving and coworkings like Rooral provide an ideal backdrop for creativity, productivity, and personal growth. By following these tips and embracing village life, you can make your remote work experience transformational!
